Someone sent me a link to an online video a while back. It was called “inspired” and featured a British youth, maybe 17, on his BMX bicycle. Link under the blogroll on right.
Now, I can ride a bike. I can change gears and manage some mild off-roading, but I’ve clearly been out of he BMX loop. This lad appeared to be defying the laws of physics. Riding on the top points of an iron fence? UP a tree? What moved me was how he managed the bike like it was just another extremity of his body, an extension of his self. Clearly in a zen “one” with it. It was beautiful. More, though. As I watched it ocured to me: I don’t care what grades this kid gets/got in school, I don’t worry about his future or doubt that he will make something of his life. The determination, perseverance, sweat and toil that he put in to be able to do THIS tells me that he’ll be just fine. “The kids are alright”.
This is what we need more of. Yes, BMX riders. No, silly – passion. People growing up knowing what they love and doing THAT. Isn’t that what an education should help you with? Too many people come out of school with no clue about who they are, what moves them, and what they want from life. They end up in dead-end jobs, maybe eventually get something simple… and that’s their treadmill. Meanwhile, they could have been contributing their true gifts and talent. We all have something rich to offer. Let’s stop burying it with schooling and making too many feel like they “got nothin’ to give’.
Let’s inspire and have them turn around and inspire back. There’s a loop to get in. That’s an energy-creating system, moving us forward, creating more good, more wealth, more solutions.
Go on, do your part. Inspire.
